    ASBO is about building leadership and management skills in our current and upcoming public school leaders which is critical to the efficiency of our profession. Now more than ever school business officials must synchronize the actions of business units and the goals of the educational institution so that our precious educational resources are expended in the most efficient manner possible, especially in the classroom.
    This workshop was established for all school business officials, for aspiring leaders in schools and for support services, bookkeepers and new employees interested in gaining a better understanding in food and nutrition services activities as it applies to Maryland Local Education Agencies (LEAs). Completion of this course counts towards your ASBO MD & DC Certification.
    Attendees will benefit by gaining an understanding of the food and nutrition requirements for School Business Operations for Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Delaware School Districts.

    Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to:

    • Establish procedures for the implementation and operation of the food service program;
    • Adhere to the legal requirements of the food service program;
    • Monitor the food service program and make adjustments as needed;
    • Ensure the management systems for tracking meals and inventories are in place and identify participant status;
    • Manage and control inventories and procurement;
    • Ensure compliance with required nutritional value is in place;
    • Analyze the methods available for providing food service and identify and recommend the most beneficial methods for a given situation;
    • Ensure cash handling procedures and effective internal controls.
